Wistoria: Wand and Sword (Japanese: 杖と剣のウィストリア Hepburn: Tsue to Tsurugi no Uisutoria) is an anime adaptation of the Japanese manga series Wistoria: Wand and Sword, written by Fujino Omori and illustrated by Toshi Aoi. It was produced by Actas and Bandai Namco Pictures and began streaming on both the Muse Asia Official YouTube Channel and Crunchyroll's official website on July 7, 2024. Following the start of the anime, a prequel to the original manga series is also set to be released in July 14, 2024.

Synopsis[]

A boy named Will enrolls in a magical academy, aspiring to become a full-fledged mage. Despite his hard work, he has a fatal weakness as a mage. It is that he cannot use magic at all. Facing cold stares from classmates and teachers, and at times feeling disheartened, Will presses on with determination. Unable to wield a wand, he takes up a sword and battles in a world where magic reigns supreme. He believes in the power that only he possesses and fights to keep a promise he made to someone important to him.^[1]

The original light novel series "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" has sold over 15 million copies and, as of 2023, its TV anime has been adapted up to its fifth season. The new series "Wistoria: Wand and Sword," created by Fujino Omori and illustrated by the talented Toshi Aoi, is a school fantasy comic about "swords and magic." It is currently serialized in "Bessatsu Shonen Magazine" and eagerly awaited as a TV anime.

Will, a boy who joins a magic academy to become a full-fledged mage, has a major problem: he can't use magic at all. Despite getting cold stares from classmates and teachers and feeling discouraged at times, Will keeps going with strong determination. He fights with a sword in a magic-dominated world, believing in his unique strength and aiming to keep a special promise.

The anime is directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara (Action Director of "Chainsaw Man"), who brings the exciting sword and magic battles to life. Saka Ono ("Cross Ange: Rondo of Angels and Dragons") is the character designer and chief animation director, and Yuuki Hayashi ("Haikyuu!!," "My Hero Academia") handles the music. The production is a joint effort by Actas and Bandai Namco Pictures, featuring a team of skilled and talented staff.

I will be playing the role of Will Selfort. When I heard that I passed the audition, I was overjoyed to be able to play Will and jumped for joy, but at the same time, I felt a great sense of responsibility. From this work and Will, I learned the courage to face seemingly insurmountable obstacles and the unbreakable spirit to overcome them. In the recording sessions, I will face the unknown just like Will and turn many unknowns into knowns with a forward-looking attitude!! Together with everyone involved, I want to create a great work, and as a fan of the series, I look forward to enjoying the broadcast with all of you who will be watching. Hello, I'm Akira Sekine, and I will be playing the role of Elferia Alvis Selfort. During the audition, as I read the original work, I thought about how amazing this girl must be to be so devoted to fulfilling her promise to her childhood friend Will. As I continued reading, I realized that while she is indeed an incredible person, she is also just a pure and adorable girl!
