Physical Therapist (Per Diem)

Location: Oak Park, IL

Hospital: RUSH Oak Park Hospital

Department: Physical Therapy

Work Type: Restricted Part Time (Total FTE less than 0.5)

Shift: Shift 1

Work Schedule: 8 Hr (7:00:00 AM - 7:30:00 PM)

Summary:

The physical therapist provides safe and effective physical therapy services including the evaluation of physical performance ability to persons impaired by physical illness or injury, congenital or developmental disability and /or the aging process. The physical therapist analyzes, selects and applies goal directed interventions for the treatment or prevention of these impairments/functional limitations to achieve maximum independence. The physical therapist has the ultimate responsibility for the provision of services including the supervision of physical therapy support personnel. All services are provided in a manner that promotes the highest level of customer satisfaction. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:

• Minimum Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from a school accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy or preferred Clinical Doctorate in physical therapy from a CAPTE approved physical therapy program.

• Maintenance of a license to practice Physical Therapy in the state of Illinois (or licensure application on file with the State Department of Prrofessional Regulation) is required.

• Maintains current CPR certification

• New/recent graduates of accredited PT education Programs who have applied to sit for the licensure examination, or foreign-trained therapists who have had their credentials reviewed by the Illinois Dept of Professional Regulation and have applied for licensure, may be hired to work under the direct supervision of a licensed physical therapist until he/she receives notice of licensure.

• Applicable assessment and treatment knowledge to provide services to various patient populations.

• Understanding of state, federal, and professional practice laws, regulations and preferred practice patterns.

• Above average written and verbal communication skills

• Flexibility and ability to manage work in a changing environment.

• Technical skills required to adapt equipment, ambulate, seating, positioning, transfers.

• Analytical skills are required to evaluate patients and their response to treatment.

• Customer service and service recovery skills are required to effectively meet the needs of patients, families and members of the Interdisciplinary healthcare team on an almost constant basis.

• Team oriented, can do attitude, actively demonstrates respect for all persons.

• Above average written, verbal and Interpersonal communication skills.

• Flexibility and ability to manage work flow in a changing environment.

• Understanding and ability to operate wheelchairs/seating and positioning, Ultrasound, MIRE, TENS, Compression, Traction, exercise equipment, Hoyer Lift, Lite Gait, CPM, Tilt Table.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

1 – 3 years clinical experience.

Physical Demands:

• Bending, twisting, reaching, pulling, pushing, balancing, crouching, stooping, standing, sitting, climbing, and kneeling.

• Walking about >75% of the day.

• Ability to carry 10 – 25Ibs and lift 50 - 75Ibs.

• Ability to work Independently.

• Ability to be efficient in using adaptive equipment and devices.

• Proficient at operating equipment, electronics, computers, printer, fax, copier.

Responsibilities:

• Delivers services consistent with the established RUSH Oak Park Hospital Mission and Philosophy.

• Maintains patient confidentiality and respects the rights and dignity of all individuals.

• Complies with current APTA Code of Ethics and state licensure laws.

• Based on the patient’s cognitive, physical and functional status, uses safe and appropriate guarding techniques and assistive/adaptive devices.

• Maintains knowledge of policies concerning precautions, codes, conditions, warnings and general safety procedures.

• Communicates effectively with patients and care givers at levels appropriate to their age, cognitive status and language abilities.

• Interacts and practices in collaboration with a variety of professionals.

• Participates in patient related conferences, organizational, and professional meetings as required.

• Documents on an ongoing basis services provided, response to services, and changes in status related to the careplan.

• Assumes responsibility and accountability for assigned patients and provides physical therapy evaluations, modalities and treatments in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

• Selects, administers, and adapts the content of patient evaluations according to APTA Standards of Practice.

• Establishes functional and measurable goals in accordance with the patient’s level of function, age, length of stay and discharge disposition.

• Provides patient and family teaching.

• Uses clinical judgement, best practices and treatment skills in all aspects of clinical practice.

• Terminates services when maximum benefit is received, completes a comprehensive discharge plan based on age, diagnosis, support, cultural background, physical and cognitive strengths and limitations.

• Makes appropriate and judicious use of group and /or joint treatment sessions.

• Maintains productivity level established by department policy.

• Schedules and prioritizes workload.

• Provides service as assigned based on census and patient needs.

• Identifies professional strengths, areas of refinement and assumes responsibility for professional growth.

• Participates in continuing education opportunities, department education and mandatory education.

• Participates in the fieldwork education process by establishing a supportive environment for PT/ PTA students.

• Clinically assists, supervises and provides education/instruction to facilitate professional growth of the PTA.

• Assists in performance improvement and supports developmental and quality focused initiatives.

• Contributes to the cost effectiveness of services and programs provided by the department.

• Communicates suggestions related to opportunities for improvement and maintaining positive relations with all customers.

• Available to work weekends and holidays.
